  The Gambia’s Central Bank was established in Banjul in 1971 to take the place of the Gambia Currency Board which was formed in 1964. It is the Banker to The Gambia Government and Commercial Banks.  It is also responsible for providing secure and efficient payment and settlement systems. The institution performs its role independently under laws enacted by the National Assembly guided by policies issued by the Government. It reports to Ministry of Finance and Economic Affairs.
