social security housing finance corporation sshfc

SSHFC was established in 1981 by an Act of Parliament. It is the national institution responsible for providing social security through its pension and provident schemes to workers in the employment of private businesses and institutions. Both workers and employers are required by law to make monthly contributions from their payroll into the corporation’s funds. The corporation invests these contributions, and is known to have investments in Banking, Real Estate, Public Transportation, etc. With the contributions and profits from investments, the Corporation administers three separate funds for workers, i.e. Social Security, Industrial injuries compensation, and the housing finance fund. The first two funds return financial benefits to workers who meet specified criteria, and through its housing finance fund, SSHFC provides serviced plots of land on credit, with or without some construction loans for the low and middle-income groups. They also have completed housing units for those in middle-income groups.
